Independence Hall of Korea - 27 Mar 05

This is the Independence Hall of Korea in the South Chungcheong Province. The Koreans lost sovereignty to Japan in 1910. The Japanese weren't very nice and tried to get rid of Korean culture; they tortured some folks and killed some folks. They also mobilized all of Korea for their war with China. Pretty good thinking until they got in a fight with the USA. The Koreans eventually got around to fighting back starting with the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919. Korea gained sovereignty back in Sep 1945. Hmmmm....something else happened about then in history, but I'm not certain what....oh yeah, Japan surrendered. The Korean museum has almost no mention of the USA or Russia, and in fact, expresses distrust of outside nations. They displayed some bonds from the US, a couple of weapons, and a few pictures. Any thanks for getting their country back? Not a one. The civil war that followed their independence apparently has left them displeased with outside influence and they maintain a strong desire to reunify with the North. The restroom photos are for Cyndi, she hasn't passed up a restroom yet. You can read more about the hall here, but my appearance doesn't adorn their photos.
